No dustwrapper. Black cloth small 8vo, pp.218. Signed and dated in ink on title page by author, with " To A.S. ! " inscribed on half title. The first of three books describing his wartime experience in the French section of the Special Operations Executive in which he was infiltrated four times into occupied France and spent 225 days behind enemy lines before he was captured. Front cover somewhat stained with a number of white coloured splashes, with both front and rear boards a little bowed. The spine is a little stained and the titles have almost completely faded. Text block moderately spotted, and there is some browning and blotchy foxing in the endpapers, main contents a little browned but otherwise clean and tight. A fair copy, possibly a candidate for rebinding.
