Octavo, xii, 241pp. Blue cloth, title in gilt over blue ink on spine, black signature on front panel. Lacking "first edition" statement on copyright page, with "K-H" date code. Solid text block, sunning to spine, a few spots on the cloth covers. In the publisher's very good dust jacket, $4.00 on front flap, short closed tears, bright illustrations. (Edens B24) Inscribed on the half title: "Inscribed for Edith + Edgar Stern with good wishes. Eleanor Roosevelt." Edith Rosenwald Stern (1895-1980) was a philanthropist and a close friend of Eleanor Roosevelt. Stern was the daughter of businessman Julius Rosenwald, who was a part-owner and leader of Sears, Roebuck, and Company. Stern dedicated her life to various philanthropic pursuits, greatly influenced by her father's commitment to charity. Her efforts were diverse, ranging from supporting African-American education to Jewish causes and the arts. Her husband, Edgar B. Stern, was an active businessman in New Orleans.
