First Edition, First Issue. Hardcover. First Issue of this memoir by General Nelson A. Miles, a key military figure in the Civil War, Indian Wars, and the late 19th-century expansion of the American West. Laid in is a folded Typed Letter Signed (TLS) by General Miles, addressed to Colonel Guido N. Lieber, who served as Acting Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army (1884-1895) and later as Judge Advocate General (1895-1901). The approximately 70-word letter, dated February 26, 1892, requests the detail of Lieutenant Chamberlain as Acting Judge Advocate at his Headquarters. Illustrated by Frederic Remington. 4to, decorated gilt-stamped binding. [Howes M595]. PLEASE NOTE that all our First Editions are also First Printings, unless we specifically note otherwise.
