CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Light wear to spine end, light rubbing to edges; cover gilt bright. Interior pages are clean and tight. With clear mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The author had use of his original letters, dispatches, and orders when preparing this account. He served in Gen. John Wool s command, including Fortress Monroe in Virginia. He relates incidents of his time in Washington and the wartime notables he met and worked with. He includes material on the introduction and use of United States Colored Troops, and he was witness to the clash of the Monitor and Merrimack. Interesting and valuable account. The former owner and to whom this copy is presented was General Christian Thomsen Christensen, who as a major, served on Wool s staff and who is included in a group of officers on page 143 of this book.
