Item description from seller

First edition - in the rare jacket - of this pre-crash guide to investing written at the height of the Roaring Twenties and advocating for an uncommonly common sense approach to investing. Addressed to both men and women, Van Riper's guide takes an uncommonly rational approach to investing in a time of margin-trading and increasing irrationality. With a focus on low-risk investments and wealth preservation, Van Riper covers life insurance, real estate, bonds, taxes, and the dangers of speculation. Van Riper (1887-1960), a Yale graduate, briefly taught finance at Colorado College, and subsequently worked in investment banking in Denver until his retirement in 1943. A proto Benjamin Graham. 7.25'' x 4.75''. Original full blue cloth with gilt-stamped titles. In original unclipped ($1.00) printed jacket. 140 pages. Moderate toning, rubbing, and edgewear to jacket. A few small chips, closed tears to folds. Book with minor shelfwear to extremities. Overall clean and sound. Near fine in a very good jacket.…
