Contains a seven page article published in The Century Magazine, February 1898, which tells the story of how the author as a youth during the Civil War traveled to Washington and managed to gain the attention of President Lincoln who out of kindness and against his better judgment agreed to free the author's brother, a Confederate officer dying of his wounds in a Union prison. A very poignant story illustrating Lincoln's character, with the author's handwritten notes bound in. Ships wrapped in bubble wrap and packed securely in a box. Seller Inventory # 082721-08
