Balfour-Browne, frontispiece drawing by Raoul Millais. Green cloth, gilt vignette of stag to upper board, spine titled in gilt. Green cloth slipcase. Edition limited to 500 copies, each signed & numbered by the author. Fine copy in very good slipcase. Signed & numbered (#473) by the author. Author's obituary (The Times, 16th August 1986) pasted to title-page. Laid in original publisher's prospectus. This is Cuthbert Fitzherbert's collection of reminiscences of deer stalking in the Scottish Highlands, in the period 1928 to 1948. Chapters include: First impressions; Deer-stalking in the Forest of Achnacarry; Reflections on deer-stalking; Hosts and guests; The season in the deer forest; Deer-stalking, ancient and modern; Amateurs and professionals; October in the deer forest; Wade's lieutenant; The prince and the pedlar; A thief in the night; The Sturgeon; The Big Stag of Coire Mor; A memory of "B.B." (by which the author means V.R. Balfour-Browne, not the more well-known author and illustrator, D.J. Watkins-Pitchford who wrote under the nom de plume of "BB".) The pasted-in obituary gives the date of the author's death as 23rd July 1986 at the age of 87 years, whereas most on-line records give it as 1975. .
