The copyright page confirms "A Four Walls Eight Windows First Edition," "First Printing October 1993," with the complete 1–10 number line. Inscribed, signed, and dated by Octavia E. Butler on the half-title page: "To Violet, Good reading, Octavia E. Butler, 2-2-95." The original dust jacket retains the publisher's $19.95 price and is protected in a fitted mylar cover. Condition is near fine or better. The book shows little to no sign of reading, with a firm, tight binding and clean boards and pages apart from the inscription. There is only the faintest trace of soiling to the bottom page block and a small, similarly faint smudge to the fore edge both barely visible even up close. The jacket shows a faint whitish, mottled area near the upper front, most noticeable at an angle; since the mylar hasn't been removed, it's unclear whether this is on the jacket itself or the mylar's underside. A tiny speck of dust is also visible beneath the cover. The first novel in Butler's acclaimed Earthseed series, Parable of the Sower is regarded as one of the defining works of modern speculative fiction a prescient story of environmental and social collapse in near-future California.
