This copy includes, loosely laid in, a promotional bookmark featuring some of Sabella's work and a message from the artist, presumably released at the time of publication. 300pp, bound in black cloth-covered boards folding over text block, creating a doubled upper panelled box. White lettering on the front panel. 8vo. A tad of yellowing on text block edges else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. Parachute Paradox is the semi-fictionalised , award-winning memoir of Jerusalem born artist, Steve Sabella, published 2016. It details Sabella's upbringing in occupied Jerusalem, his detention by Israeli authorities and his eventual flee from Palestine to the west; and it explores the twinned topics of physical and creative liberation through imagination. The book's design and physical production is also artistically unusual, conceived by Sabella himself and designed by Verlena Gerlach. The first edition was printed in a limited edition of 1250 numbered copies, in addition to 150 numbered artist proofs and a 100 copies reserved for the media.…

During the war on Gaza in 2014, he released the statement of empowerment "A Declaration of Independence" which stated, "From this day onward, I declare that I am a citizen of planet earth and beyond. I am from everywhere and nowhere. No geography or culture defines me."
Blurring fact and fiction, love and loss, this gorgeously designed memoir traces one man's arduous search for liberation from within, through a confrontation with his colonized imagination.
The Parachute Paradox won the 2017 Eric Hoffer Award and the 2016 Nautilus Book Awards, both for best memoir. The book was also a finalist for The International Book Awards.

About the Author
In 2008, Sabella also received the Ellen Auerbach Award from the Akademie der Künste (ADK) in Berlin, leading to the publication of his first comprehensive monograph, Steve Sabella Photography 1997-2014. The esteemed Hatje Cantz Verlag published the monograph in collaboration with the ADK, with texts by Hubertus von Amelunxen, president of the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, and a foreword by the known art historian Kamal Boullata.
Sabella received a BA in Visual Studies from the State University of New York in 2007. Through a Chevening Scholarship, he earned an MA in Photographic Studies at the University of Westminster, London, graduating in 2008 with a Caparo Award of Distinction. In 2009, he earned his second MA in Art Business at Sotheby's Institute of Art, London.
Sabella has published numerous essays on the art world and is currently preparing to publish his book The Artist's Curse, a series of epigrams, micro-narratives, tips and concise analyses of the art world as it looked till 2020. And coming to light soon is the artist's book, The Secrets of Life. Through his art and writing, Sabella works beyond narratives of exile, transcending culture and nationality, and advocating for global citizenship.
Sabella's work is held in the British Museum collection in London, The Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, and the Arab World Institute in Paris, among other museums and prominent private collections.
Sabella's solo exhibitions include a major retrospective, Archaeology of the Future, at the International Center for Photography Scavi Scaligeri, Verona, (2014)--with a book with the same title published by Maretti Editore.
