First edition, first printing of this scarce Harlem Renaissance classic, signed by Nella Larsen on the front free endpaper. Bound in publisher's original black cloth ruled in red with silver lettering, lacking the dust jacket. Very Good with cloth rubbed through at corners and spine ends with shallow loss at the crown, lettering mostly rubbed on spine and partially on upper board, scuffing to lower board and faint staining to cloth. Former owner name and bookplate to front pastedown, contents tanned and lightly thumbed. The author's second novel, widely considered a major work of 20th century American fiction and the Harlem Renaissance, as well as a keystone of both feminist and African-American literature.
