Hardcover in Very Good condition, large 12mo, 136 pages. Green cloth with titles and rules in gold, black double border and mountain illustration on top board, large folded frontis plus 12 black-and-white plates (as called for). King (1874-1941) was blind in 1900 (mining accident) and the signature on the front end-paper (1911) appears to have been made by the hand of a blind person, the more legible hand of the inscription on the second blank may have been written by his wife, Florence. Light wear to tips and spine ends, binding slightly cocked and spine dulled, some spotting to front board, light soiling. Accession no.: 23778. "Alfred Castner King had been a lover of nature, a man of the mountains and forests who had embraced the beauty of the natural world with his heart and soul. His poems were written after an accident left him blind. I have read his poems over the years and, at times, have been overwhelmed by the beauty of his words.
