First printing. 60 pages. Kunitz's second book, a collection of war poems from his early work starting in 1928. He has received nearly every honor bestowed upon a poet in this country, including the Pulitzer and Bollingen Prizes, a National Medal of Arts from President Clinton in 1993, and the Frost Medal from the Poetry Society of America in 1998. He served as consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress (now called U.S. Poet laureate), State Poet of New York, and Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Unclipped dust jacket is in good condition with some chipping and spotting, protected in Brodart. Inscribed, "Grarefully to Eunice - from Stanley K. & Co. Sept. 1953," first edition.
