A series of portrait photography from the renowned fashion and celebrity photographer, Helmut Newton. From the introduction, "Opulence, fetishism, decadence, malaise, fantasy, haughtiness, aggression, and chic: these terms are frequently deployed to either applaud or excoriate the photographs of Helmut Newton." Newton's interest in fashion as well as the erotic produced a style that was distinctive and versatile, with his work in Vogue and Harpers bearing key resemblances to his work with Playboy, and vice versa. The book is dedicated to Newton's wife June, also known as Alice Springs, a highly prolific and successful photographer in her own right, who also acted as the art director, editor, and curator of Helmut's work. A broad range of subjects are photographed, from actors, models, and musicians to political power brokers. Included within are Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, Sophia Loren, Natassija Kinski, Gainsbourg and Birkin, Elizabeth Taylor, David Bowie, Grace Jones, Ava Gardner, Mick Jagger, and many more.
