Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition, stated, of author's first book. Harrison went on to a long and successful career following this publication. A nice overall copy of the paperback, simultaneously published with the cloth editon. From the home of a tobacco smoker so there is some requisite toning to wraps and a very faint odor for the overly sensitive, however it is not so apparent unless you were previously told. Spine is slightly darkened and cover toning mostly at the edges. Otherwise only issue is a teeny and hardly noticeable thumb indent at the foredge of the front wrap, otherwise some other very faint shelfwear, but hardly so, and now protected in mylar. Interior is clean and free of marks, still bright and fresh. Binding is solid and sound. Seller Inventory # ABE-1708631034266

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. VG- housed in a Good only dust jacket with a 3" chip along the upper back of the DJ that lessens as it extends 1" onto the front and up to the spine. Chipped at foot of spine as well. Condition noted; despite this, the book is rare and remains a highly collectible piece of modern American poetry, offering a rare glimpse into the early poetic vision of a writer who would go on to become a literary icon. Plain Song is the debut poetry collection by Jim Harrison, a writer best known for his raw, visceral poetry and fiction deeply rooted in the American landscape. Published when Harrison was in his twenties, Plain Song showcases the early development of his signature themesnature, mortality, solitude, and the primal instincts of man. The poems in Plain Song are spare yet evocative, often meditative and melancholic, capturing a sense of longing and connection to the wilderness. Harrison's work in this collection is influenced by Chinese and Japanese poetry, particularly haiku, which is reflected in its unembellished, direct style and deep appreciation of the natural world. Though Harrison later became more famous for his fiction (Legends of the Fall, Dalva), Plain Song set the foundation for his lifelong exploration of poetry. The book remains a sought-after title for collectors of modern American poetry and those who admire Harrison's rugged yet lyrical approach to storytelling. Seller Inventory # plainsong.harrison
