A critical study of C.S. Lewis's “Ransom Trilogy” which analyses Lewis's methods and meanings, concentrating on this trilogy but also including relevant secondary work. Lewis's literary scholarship and display of Christian values are incorporated into this discussion.
David C. Downing is one of the foremost scholarly interpreters of the life and writings of C. S. Lewis. At the time Planets in Peril was first published, Downing was a professor of English at Westmont College in California. Downing has written three other award-winning scholarly books on C. S. Lewis: The Most Reluctant Convert: C. S. Lewis's Journey to Faith (InterVarsity Press, 2002), Into the Wardrobe: C. S. Lewis and the Narnia Chronicles (Jossey-Bass, 2005), and Into the Region of Awe: Mysticism in C. S. Lewis (InterVarsity Press, 2005). In addition to his Lewis scholarship, Downing has written fiction, including Looking for the King: An Inklings Novel (Ignatius Press, 2010) as well as A South Divided: Portraits of Dissent in the Confederacy. His most recent publication is C.S. Lewis: Letters on Living the Faith (2026).
