A very scarce, first edition of this religious pamphlet regarding the Church of England. Signed by the author, Henry Almack. Signed to the title page 'Revd Hugh Preston with Kind Regards H.A'.Written by Henry Almack, the rector of Fawley Buckinghamshire. He was previously rector of All Saints' Southampton and was a former fellow of St John's College, Cambridge.In this work Almack is making a plea for Deacons. He discusses difficulties that beset the Church of England and he notes 'our greatest weakness consists in our failing to secure, in the proportion we ought, the large body of the trading and industrial classes'. Almack produces solutions to the Church of England's structuring in order to grow. In a quarter cloth binding, with marbled paper boards. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Author's gift inscription to the title page. Prior owner has written number '17' to the title page. The odd spot. Fine.
