Add to basketInscribed First Edition of this extensive collection of courtroom arguments and speeches on aspects of the law and the U.S. Constitution by the early 20th Century's "Mr. Constitution," James M. Beck. Beck served as U.S. Solicitor General under President Warren Harding and President Calvin Coolidge as well as a U.S. Rep. from Pennsylvania. He was also a top corporate attorney and widely regarded in his era as the nation's leading expert on the U.S. Constitution. In much read books and articles, the influential Mr. Constitution expressed reverence for the document forged in late 18th century and vigorously argued that the founders would not have wanted their handiwork sullied by such new-fangled early 20th Century ideas as income taxes and regulation of child labor (liberty of contract for twelve years old and freedom for parents to assign household chores!) Inscribed by James Beck to a fellow member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Lawrence Lewis. Cloth, 511 pages. The book itself shows minimal sign of previous use. The dust jacket has some edge wear and some tanning of the spine.
