Small 4to. Quarter tan cloth with gilt-lettered calf spine label and grey paper over boards. xxxiii, 264pp. Top edge gilt. Very good. Binding typically age toned as are endpapers, else tight and internally fine. Attractive first edition, with front colophon noting limitation of 325 numbered copies (this #116) boldly signed by de la Mare. Front pastedown bears the owl-theme bookplate of Daniel Henry Holmes Ingalls (1916-99), noted Sanskrit scholar and long-time Professor of Sanskrit at Harvard University, well known for translating Sanskrit court poetry into English. De la Mare (1873-1956) was an incredibly prolific English poet, novelist, critic and short story writer, often remembered for his many collections of children's verse -- of which this is a choice example.
