About this Item
An inscribed first edition (presentation copy) of this collection of poems by Hoosier poet Meredith Nicholson. This copy also includes a personal letter from Nicholson. The book is inscribed to a western New York minister, H.A. Edson. The letter makes reference to a controversy in the Episcopal Church involving the expulsion of Algeron Sidney Crapsey from his ministry over his commentary on the physical being and life of Jesus Christ. There is also a 1906 newspaper clipping in which Nicholson had written a letter to the editor in support of Crapsey and in opposition to an editorial that had appeared in the paper. The book also begins with a poem that is a dedication to James Whitcomb Riley. 110 pages, green cloth, gilt decorations. Inscribed on the front free endpaper. Letter is in its original envelope.
