A fine copy in a near fine jacket. Some sun-darkening to jacket, particularly on spine. Closed tear on back cover of jacket. SIGNED BY AUTHOR on half-title page (her name only). "This portrait originated as a Profile in The New Yorker, published May 13, 1950." Ross was a staff writer at The New Yorker for seven decades, beginning in 1945. Her novelistic reporting and writing style, shown in early stories about Ernest Hemingway and John Huston, are widely understood as a primary influence on what would later be called "literary journalism" or "new journalism.".
