The essays had been developed for the inaugural William L. Clayton Lectures at Tufts University. Signed by Dean Acheson on the front endpaper. Acheson has also dated the signature in the year of publication. 137 pages. No dust jacket. Has previous owner names (Marshall Green was a career diplomat who served as U.S. Ambassador to Sukarno era Indonesia among other postings) inked on the signature page. The covers have rubbing at the edges and the gilt is mostly rubbed of the titles on the spine.
