Add to basketGift quality first printing hardcover in yellow cloth covered boards with blue titles. Tips sharp, spine ends bumped, bookplate on dedication page signed/dated by Miriam Young. No other marks, writing, no tears or soil in the tight, crisp, untrimmed, top edge dyed red 116pp text illustrated with line drawings by Amy Jones. Original, un-clipped light green background illustrated dust wrapper shows two short closed tears at head of frt panel, small repairs at tips/spine ends and one at head of rear panel. Jacket shows a red/cream/black carousel with a country town in the background (church, little homes). Color loss in frt gutter and middle of backstrip that rubbed some of the middle of the author's name, but book still displays very well in new mylar. There are stories galore about boys and girls who want to ride a horse. But this story is about a horse who wanted a child to ride him and love him. Prance was the youngest horse on a traveling merry-go-round that went from town to town bringing joy to boys and girls years and years ago. Born (or rather, carved) in New Bedford Massachusetts in 1825, Prance led a merry life, going round and round to the music of the calliope, listening to the maxims of his older brother Solomon, and laughing at the silly songs his brother Pippin was always singing in his nice but tuneless voice. But as time went on, Prance felt an emptiness in his heart; of all the children that rode on his back, not one could he call his special friend. And he wanted a friend so much. His adventures took him from New England to San Francisco, to Chicago, and back to New York. His coat of dapple gray was changed to black and then to pink! And all through the years he kept looking, and waiting, and hoping.
