Item description from seller

Programme of a Saturday Recital given by Britten and his partner Peter Pears at.St. Margaret's Church, Lowestoft on March 23, 1946. Signed by Britten and Pears in fountain pen to upper panel. This was one of three concerts Britten and Pears gave to raise funds for the Suffolk School, of which Britten was Honorary Music Advisor. The recital featured works by Bach, Handel, Hayden and Purcell, as well as a new composition by Britten: 'The Holy Sonnets of John Donne', written after his return from Germany where he had gone with Yehudi Menuhin to give recitals to concentration camp survivors. What they saw, at Belsen in particular, coloured his work for the rest of his life. Britten would move to Aldeburgh the following year. Bifolium (280. x 13.5 cm), beige paper stock printed in black, fore-edge untrimmed. A few spots, trivial marks and ink splashes, light creasing, otherwise very good indeed. Loosely inserted is a typed paper programme of a recital to be given by pianist Cyril Smith.
