Add to basketA rare copy, bound in a blue quarter cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and beige paper covered boards. Spine is in good condition with minor wear to crown and foot. Boards are in good condition with some scuffing to the bottom corners of upper board and where the blue cloth meets the paper covering. Slight soiling and small marks to boards but minor. Some bumping to corners and scuffing to edges of boards but good overall. Binding is tight and hinges are intact. All pages are free from notations. Main text block has occasional spotting and foxing throughout but text unaffected. Page margins and edges show occasional spotting and soiling. Front and rear end papers do their job and show toning and foxing. Half-title page toned and foxed. All plates have full, intact tissue-guards. Fore-edge and bottom edge are untrimmed and all edges are toned with age with small stain to top edge but minor. Front end-paper shows dedication to " Gavin Bone, from Percy Simpson, March 1935". Gavin Bone was a tutor and Fellow of St Johns College Oxford, discoverer of the manuscript of the Siege of Thebes by John Lydgate, which is discussed in this book. Overall a pleasing copy of this scarce 1st edition.
