About this Item

Description:

8vo. Pp. 220. Frontis. b&w portrait photo. Illustrated with two sections of b&w photo reproductions on coated paper. Appendices, index. First edition stated, printed in Canada. Green leatherette with titles stamped in gilt. Small dent to the rear board lower edge. In the illustrated dust jacket: spine sunned, slight edge-wear. With laid in ink signatures of Joshua and Laura T. Green within a printed folder. This was Superior publisher Albert Salisbury's copy; it appears the signatures of the Greens were going to be reprinted in facsimile in the book, given the accompanying manuscript measurements, although we don't see reference to their signatures within. They're enclosed in Joshua Green's proprietary folder, titled "While I was pouring over the paper," by which he would send newspaper clippings to associates and friends.A lively biography of a pre-eminent Seattle citizen and businessman, part owner of the Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet and founder of Peoples National Bank. A colorful history of the region's development. Gordon Newell was a maritime enthusiast who wrote for Binfords & Mort; upon meeting Albert Salisbury, owner of Superior Publishing, he would go on to write a bevy of titles for the press including Sea Rogues Gallery, Pacific Lumber Ships, and Westward to Alki.Jacket preserved in a removable clear archival sleeve.
