On the front blank endpaper, the author has penned " For Jess. With the best of wishes and again my grateful thanks for so much help. Laura . Dec. 26, 1941". On the dedication page, Gilpin has underlined the print in red ink "To Jesse L. Nusbaum whose kindly interest guided the production of the book. 1925-1941" And on the Preface page, again underlined in red ink: "I extend my grateful thanks to both Mr. and Mrs. Nusbaum, who first introduced me to the mysteries of Mesa Verde many years ago and who have since given me much help and information." Jesse Nusbaum, American archeologist, photographer was National Park Service Superintendent where he made significant achievements in presentaion of Native American cultural heritage. This is an outstanding association/ presentation copy dated in the month the U.S. entered World War II.
