About this Item
Signed "Happy Birthday to Joe's sister Sue from Helene Hanff London September 23,1985" to the fep. Once upon a time an eighteen-year-old American girl was searching the shelves of a public library when she came across Sir Arther Quiller-Couch's 'On The Art Of Writing'. From that day Helene Hanff's interest in English literature became a passion. Q taught her to love books, books taught her to love the country in which they had been written, and this led her to buy her favourite books from Marks & Co. Booksellers, a bookshop in London. Which led in turn to her first thrilling visit to England as a feted author; thousands of fan letters; her name in lights on a West End Theatre and her name on a plaque at 84 Charing Cross Road.
