Black boards with blind stamped publisher's device and silver vignette to the upper board. Silver titles to the spine. Extremely minor softening at spine ends. No other wear. Black and white plates. Signed by the author to Howard King (biologist?) dated August 1957 to the verso of the preface. Unclipped dust wrapper at 21s which has a little chipping and wear at the head of the spine and corners with some mild browning to the spine. Perks up immeasurably in mylar. A biography about an 18th century Bristol doctor who sailed around the world, helped rescue Alexander Selkirk, invented Dover's powder and promoted the use of mercury (quicksilver) as a cure-all in his London practice.
