Item description from seller

SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Updike on FFEP: 'For Juli Visnyei / What happens to an athlete when the shouting is over / All the best, John Updike.' Gyula Visnyei, AKA 'Juli Veee,' is a Hungarian-American Soccer player of some renowned, both as a member of the Hungarian National Team and later as an indoor soccer phenomenon in the 1980's after defecting to America. An excellent association for this first Rabbit Angstrom novel following the malaise and tragedy of a 20-something erstwhile basketball star. First edition. 307pp. Blue paper over board backed in green cloth silver gilt lettering, pale blue topstain. Some minor wear, faint offsetting to endpapers, otherwise uncommonly clean and fresh. DJ spine scuffed over the U and N of RUN, tips moderately rubbed, price of $4.00 intact.
