BOOK DESCRIPTION: 8vo, xii, (13) 136 (1 pg appendix) pgs, frontis portrait. Red cloth with white gilt title on cover. Inscribed presentation from author dated 1904 to his "esteemed friend, Alexander Randall", (a member of the noted,19th Century Maryland political/business family). CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Light soiling and rubbing to covers, spine ends rubbed and worn. Interior is clean and tight. With clear, mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: A scarce and desirable Confederate memoir. The author served in the 1st Maryland Inf, CSA, later then attached to the Second Virginia Cavalry, and finally to the First Maryland Cavalry Battalion, CSA. He was present at all the major engagements from First Manassas onward. His narrative is refreshing in that it covers only what Gill saw and did, it does not critique or try to explain general officer strategy. Preface: "This little pamphlet is printed for my own pleasure and use, without pretense to historical accuracy it is a personal reminiscence only. A few copies will be printed for my immediate family and friends. The matter contained has been jotted down at odd moments as the memory of days long ago came back to me." REFERENCES: DORN II #515; Coulter 185; NEVINS I pg. 94 "Highly personal recollections of a young soldier whose service was primarily in Virginia; Gill was a Marylander who enlisted in a cavalry unit.".…
