London: John Murray, 1827, First Edition, SIGNED and dedicated to the Earl of Hardwicke by the Author. Full leather binding, worn marked and unevenly faded, lacking the label to the spine, signed by the author tot the title page, complete with the folding Sketch shewing the Relative Situations of the Lodes of San Lorenzo, San Pedro, Ballejos and San Nicolas…etc. , misfolded but intact. Captain Francis Bond Head (1793-1875) was an officer in the British Army from 1811 to 1825. He was at Waterloo and after his army careeer tried setting up a mining company in Argentina which, as this book tells, failed. From 1835 to 1837 he was Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada. He subsequently wrote a number of books on travel and travellers. Size: 7.5 x 4.75 Inches. Pagination: vii, [i], folding sketch map, 228pp. Provenance: inscriptions by the Author to the Earl of Hardwicke to the title page. Approximately 7 ¾ inches tall (20cm). Condition Report Externally Spine fair condition structurally sound, lacking the title label, gilt lined raised bands, wear and marks. Joints good condition rubbed and worn. Corners good condition bumped and worn. Boards good condition structurally sound marked and worn. Page edges good condition all edges deckled, top edge slightly darkened. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition sound and strong. Paste downs good condition marbled paper. End papers good condition marbled paper, subsequently tanned and foxed.
