Octavo, [8], 5-349, [9] pages. In Very Good minus condition. Bound in full khaki-grey cloth with brown label bearing gilt titling to spine. Spine has a chip to lower edge of label (titling unaffected,) light bumping to endcaps, light sunning, and light rubbing and scuffing throughout. Boards have slight bumping to fore corners, sunning near spine, light shelfwear to edges, and rubbing throughout; front board has some scuff marks on top edge; rear board has a smudge to the right of its center. Text block has gilded top edge and deckled fore and bottom edges; a smudge to top edge, age-toning and light foxing to fore and bottom edges; adhesive toning to endpapers, light penciling to front free endpaper, and splitting to gutter behind title page. Half-title page is inscribed: "George Olds/once my President/always my President./Robert Frost". Shelved in Case 0. The recipient of this gift copy, George Olds (1853-1931,) was the 9th President of Amherst College, serving in that capacity when Robert Frost took up a position as Professor of English there in 1927. After a rocky relationship with Olds' predecessor, Frost was elated to have someone whose educational theories more aligned with his leading the school, and was convinced to return and continue teaching.
