EXHIBITED: The Society of Illustrators, New York, ?Maurice Sendak, Genius of American Picture Books Exhibition and Sale,? April 1-July 10, 2021. The exhibition square which describes the piece is shown to the lower right of the verso of the frame. LITERATURE: J.G. Schiller, D.M.V. David, L.S. Marcus, Maurice Sendak: A Celebration of the Artist and His Work, New York, 2013 PROVENANCE: Ex: The collection of Justin Shiller. The art was purchased from an Auction House who was commissioned to sell several original illustrations by Maurice Sendak from the collection of Justin Shiller. A copy of the original bill of sale, lot number and the description will be included with the piece, and will provide both provenance and authenticity for the art. This artwork shows an original Maurice Sendak concept drawing, rendered in graphite, of Rosie, the title character from the 1974 animated version of ?Really Rosie,? (voiced by Carole King). Rosie was based the story on a demonstrative little girl who used to sing and dance on the stoop of her building, whom Sendak observed while he was a little boy growing up in Brooklyn. She is depicted from her knees up, gazing directly at Pierre with her hands clenched around her signature boa. The artist's signature is at the lower right of the image. The piece is in perfect condition with a hint of rippling to the velum. Perfect for a collector of Maurice Sendak art. This piece is SIGNED by Maurice Sendak lower right. The art is in great condition and presents beautifully. Artwork by Sendak of his main characters is very scarce! CONDITION: Some undulation to the sheet. Not examined outside of frame.
