First US edition, first prnt. Inscribed by Shaffer on the front free endpage to actress June Havoc and her director-producer third husband. "For June Havoc William Spier with affectionate best wishes Peter." Cloth spine ends with touch of shelfwear, front board upper corner with mild bump; dustjacket with toned spine and shelfwear with some loss at spine ends and corners. Tight copy in Very Good condition in a Good dustjacket with an archival cover. Basis for the 1969 Irving Lerner directed film with Robert Shaw, Christopher Plummer and Nigel Davenport. Plummer had appeared in stage production of the play.
