Small 4to. 151pp, illustrated frontispiece (Harry Furniss), all pages decorated with gilt. 27x20, Original publisher's ink blue cloth with glt lettering and royal crest, glt edges to all pages, bevelled edges , deisgnated"Presentation Copy" at half-title. All edges gilt, a lavish production. Held to mark Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, the 1887 Manchester Exhibition was a great success in terms of visitor numbers. This is a presentiation edition of the catalogue for the Fine Art section - it was generally available in paper wraps - listing the more than 2100 works on show. The production, by The Excelsior Works in Manchester has the bookplate of the Earl of Northbrook. Artists exhibited included.GF Wattrs,Millais, Prout, Burne Jones,Landseer David Cox Holman Hunt J M Turner J Linnell HS Marks Birket Fostet, The Fripps, David Roberts,Stacpole, Stanfield, Samuel Palmer etc., No iplates but occasional outline illustrations showing the names of persons portyrayed and quotations and notes under some listings to explain the painting's theme.
