A Labour MP and Cabinet Minister in Harold WIlson's government, Stonehouse famously faked his own death and flew to Australia with his mistress and secretary Sheila Buckley, where he was later apprehended, though at first they thought they might have apprehended Lord Lucan! Stonehouse subsequently spent several years in Wormwood Scrubs prison and died in 1988. Several books were written about the scandal, and a television dramatisation starring Matthew Macfadyen and Keeley Hawes was broadcast on ITV in 2023. The four separate handwritten letters are written on Stonehouse's personal stationery with his London address, and mainly thank a couple for their hospitality. They are all handwritten and signed "John", though he has signed one of them "Sheila and John + James X". The book is also inscribed to the couple and dated 16 May 1982 "(11 days to publication!)" as Stonehouse put it. The book has only light wear, mildly bumped corners and tanned edges, pages are clean, binding is tight. The dust jacket is not price clipped, and has some edge wear, surface impressions, and rubbing to the corners. Dispatched from the UK same or next working day.
