Facsimile reprint of the 1923 Eastern Washington Historical Society limited edition, with foreword by Donald J. Sterling and afterword by Jean Murray Cole. Appendices, bibliography, index. Dark gray cloth, titles stamped in red foil on the spine, light gray endpapers, Epson Portland / Friends of MacDonald presentation card mounted to the front pastedown, printed letter and Clatsop Historical Society brochure laid in. Leaves crisp and bright, binding tight. In the color illustrated laminated dust jacket, "Special Presentation Copy" printed on the front panel: crimson sun faded on the spine. A solid, presentable copy. The adventurous life of the son of a Hudson's Bay Company official and a Chinook princess who shipwrecked himself in Japan where he became the first native English speaker to teach the language. Included in this narratives he describes being the first native English-speaker to teach the English language in Japan.
