A first edition of this work, with a tipped in presentation book plate from the author on the half title: 'To John and Shirley, with cordial greetings from the author. Anatoly Naiman 8.10.1991.' With the original unclipped dust wrapper. With a frontispiece and four further monochrome photographic plates. Collated complete. The book details the author's memories of Russian poet Anna Akhmatova, recalling her life and poetry. With an introduction by Joseph Brodsky. In the original publisher's black cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally excellent, with slight bumping to head of spine. Dust wrapper unclipped with light sunning to spine with shelf wear to extremities of wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
