First edition, first printing with matching dates. Laid in is an original albumen cabinet card photograph of the artist which is signed, dated and personally inscribed by the him below the image. The photo is by "Brady's National Portrait Gallery" as noted on the back. There is light wear to the binding and one plate is loose but present. A short gift inscription, dated 1894, on the front endpaper. The author was an important and prolific American portrait painter and Brady is known for his Civil War photography. Still a very good copy of this unique book and photograph combination.
