Add to basketLondon. Eyre and Spottiswoode. 1969. First Edition; no edition remarks to copyright page. Hard Cover. Demy 8vo, 8¾" x 5½" [22 x 14 cm] approx. 223 pp. Brown boards with some minor crushing at the spine ends. Sharp corners. Foreword by Richard Church. Spotting to the fore edge and odd spot to flaps. Top of spine head has a little wear and closed tear but minimally noticeable in mylar. Attractive wraparound jacket design by Walter Hoyle. Attractive orange map endpapers showing Bartlow Hamlet and surrounding areas in about 1920, drawn from a sketch by Spike Mays. Signed by author to Kate Tovey on the half title. The author's realistic account of his childhood in isolated Bartlow Hamlet, near Ashdon in Essex, recalls a rural way of life which has all but disappeared.
