A collection of author John Parris' popular newspaper columns from the Asheville Citizen-Times, this is the author's first and most foundational book. The book takes readers on a vivid, personal journey through the mountains of Western North Carolina with folklore, legends, tall tales, local history and pioneer stories, profiles of colorful mountain characters, and descriptions of the natural landscape.This signed first edition is bound in hunter green cloth. Covers are plain with gilt lettering on the spine. Illustrated throughout are little sketches in black and white by the author's wife, Dorothy Luxton Parris, whose drawings add a charming, folksy touch that complements the book?s warm, storytelling style. 246 pp. Illustrated dust jacket is in red, blue and yellow color tones against an off-white background, showing a drawing of a seated mountain man whittling against the mountain landscape on the cover, and a photo of the author on the back. CONDITION: Book itself is near fine with very mild shelfware and lightly toned pages. Dust jacket is VG- with some wear, soiling, and chipping along the edges. Vintage tape is affixed to the head and foot of each cover and corresponding flap. A nice, solid, signed first edition copy. Full refund if not satisfied. Seller Inventory # 080820
