About this Item

The Robe. Signed by author Lloyd Douglas. [1942] first edition/fourth printing; Houghton Mifflin; good hardcover [perhaps married with a slightly later jacket]. Inscribed to "Helen Ford" on flyleaf verso. A remarkable scarce signed book by the writer who inspired generations with spiritual fiction and nonfiction. Brickred cloth hardcover with rubbing to backstrip and edgewear; open tear at back joint; otherwise moderate external handling wear. Black topstain indicative of first edition copies; unmarked internally other than inscription. Jacket appears a few millimeters small for the volume; housed in archival cover with original price of $2.75. Wear at folds and edges; general handling wear. The jacket may indeed be the one issued and has just over time lost crispness and become offset. The first printing was $2.50, so the original price is plausible and the jacket is the first edition issue.
