First edition. Inscribed by the author, "For Mr. T. T. Elliott, With all fond wishes R. J. Minney, Calcutta 18th Feb, 1922". With an additional letter loosely inserted addressed to the same Mr. Elliott, stating "I hope you will do me the honour of accepting a small token I send herewith in the form of my latest effort between hard covers. It is a tribute for a fellow writer in the same field. Yours very sincerely, R. J. Minney.". A delightful collection of impressions of Calcutta, written by British film producer, journalist, playwright and author, R. J. Minney, known for his work with Gainsborough Pictures. Minney was born in Calcutta and often returned to his home there, providing the inspiration for this work. Not intended as a travel guide, this volume contains impressions and a little history, providing a glimpse of various phases of life in Calcutta. With charming pictorial boards and three monochrome illustrations. With a newspaper article detailing the auction of the estate of R. J. Minney, with particular reference to his correspondence with the likes of H. G. Wells, Rudyard Kipling, Shirley MacLaine and John Gielgud. Bound in the publisher's quarter cloth with pictorial boards. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the extremities, fading to the spine and a few marks. Worming holes to the rear board and a little to the front. Ink inscription to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good.
