First Edition Thus (1973); no subsequent printings listed, as would have been Bantam's customary practice at the time of publication. Signed by author Ron Hansen, who is known for writing literary westerns exploring the people and history of the American heartland, notably "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" (1983), which was adapted into an acclaimed film. Hansen's 1996 novel, Atticus, was a finalist for both the National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award. Very Good+ in Wraps: shows indications of very careful use: just a touch of wear to the extremities; moderate rubbing to the wrapper covers, which show some creasing along the front 'hinge'; a coupon has been clipped out of the last page of advertisements at the rear of the book (does not involve the actual text of the book at all); the expected light tanning to the text pages, due to aging; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creases to the backstrip. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. A handsome, copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing mild wear and some a minor, unobtrusive imperfections. Not so very far from "As New". NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 12mo. (7 x 4.2 x 0.75 inches). 344 pages. Language: English. Weight: 6.8 ounces. Classic cover art depicting a red-headed female country & western figure on a deep red background field.
