She makes up her mind to run away to Australia to find her father. Reaching Southampton, Lucy, attaching herself to a large family party, manages to board a ship. The two girls in the family, Jo and Debbie, finding Lucy in their cabin decide to keep her hidden which proves difficult and at one time almost disatrous. During her adventures and travels across the world Lucy also finds that the words the her mother had copied out before she died "Those that seek Me early shall find Me" come wonderfully true.
