About this Item
DICK, George F. [With Gladys Henry Dick]. SCARLET FEVER. Illustrated. Chicago: The Year Book Publishers Inc., [1938]. 8vo., brick-red cloth stamped in black & gilt; 149 pages. First Edition. George Frederick Dick [1881-1967] was an American pioneer bacteriologist and physician in the research and cure for scarlet fever. A test formerly used to determine susceptibility or immunity for scarlet fever was named after him- the Dick test. Dick studied scarlet fever in the Army Medical Crops during World War I and, in collaboration with his wife Gladys, managed to locate the cause of the disease and created an anti-toxin for immunization. Signed presentation from Dick on the front endpaper: "To Dr. Weaver, with sincere regard and gratitude for what I have learned from you about scarlet fever, George D. Dick." Very Good (minor wear & few very tiny spots front cover; contents clean & tight). $250.00. Seller Inventory # 1501
