SEA AND SUSSEX from Rudyard Kipling's Verse

Illustrated by Donald Maxwell. With an Introductory Poem by Rudyard Kipling. London: Macmillan and Co., 1926. Original light blue-grey paper-covered boards with vellum spine, with dust jacket. First (English) Edition, published on the same day as the American -- of which this is one of 500 large-paper copies signed by Kipling. This is a collection of 24 previously-published poems (plus a previously-UNpublished introductory poem), accompanied by 24 full-page color plates by Donald Maxwell. (As Richards points out, Maxwell -- related to Kipling by marriage -- had been an accomplished naval artist/correspondent during the Grear War, and was a frequent visitor at the Kiplings' "Bateman's.") Near-fine (light foxing on the boards), in a very good-plus jacket (faint foxing, a couple of small edge-chips). There is an ownership signature dated October 30, 1926 -- eleven days after publication. Richards A365; Stewart 525.
