Hon-Chew Hee Studio, Honolulu, 1973, 1st Edition. 73 pages. + bibliography. Signed by the artist: on the first free endpaper, "Aloha Hon-Chew Hee", (in English and Chinese). Also signed on the colophon and with stamped Book Number 00116. Black cloth binding, 9"x 9," gilt titling to front, back and spine in stylized English and Chinese, print affixed to front panel, blind-stamped design to back panel, in a custom Mylar sleeve, black endpaper with white Chinese character to inner pastedown. -- In very good condition, pages have very slightly darkened from age, light spotting on the endpapers. Shelf wear to the Mylar cover. Includes biographical essays from Hee and 30 silkscreen prints in striking full-color. Two facsimile letters to Hee, one from Jackie Kennedy and the other from Carl Zigrosser. Hon-Chew Hee (1906-1993) was a Chinese American watercolorist, muralist, printmaker, who grew up in Hawaii and was working as a printer in the naval yard when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Signage was his way of contributing to the war effort, and he taught himself silkscreen technique by reading books. He was a graduate of San Francisco Art Institute and Columbia University, and he studied under Fernand Leger and Andre L'hote in Paris.…

We have a growing inventory of Illustrated Literature(mainly 20th century), Art, Architecture, Hawaiiana and Fine Press books from the US and Europe. We ship within 2 days. Due to potential delays with Media Mail from Hawaii, we mainly ship with Priority Mail within the US (at Media Mail prices)

All items are as described and Honolulu Rare Books makes every effort for clarity and preciseness in description, but errors do occur and the seller makes no guarantees for ultimate accuracy. If you're dissatisfied with your purchase (Incorrect Book/Not as Described/Damaged) or if the order hasn't arrived, you're eligible to request a refund within 30 days of the estimated delivery date.
All returns must be approved before an item is shipped back. Domestic returns generally take two weeks and International returns can take up to six weeks to be received and processed. In the event that an item is being returned due to an error on our part,a prepaid return label will be supplied via email upon request. All books are offered subject to prior sale.
Shipping terms
Shipping costs are based on books weighing 2.2 LB, or 1 KG. If your book order is heavy or oversized, we may contact you to let you know extra shipping is required.
Orders usually ship within 2 business days [M-F]. We will provide tracking for all orders. Items shipped via USPS Mail should arrive within 4-14 business days. We ship from Hawaii. Media Mail can take up to 14 - 20 days just to reach the West Coast by ship. Therefore we ship all smaller and regular sized items within the US by Priority Mail without additional cost to the customer. Oversized or heavy books might have to be shipped by Media Mail.
Please note, as per USPS, depending on service location and/or high peak periods within the post office, deliveries can take up to 21 business days to arrive. Should your order not arrive within 21 business days, please contact us promptly for resolution.
