Pages remain bright and clear with minimal tanning and foxing. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Some creasing to gutter. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Light crushing to spine ends. Minor tanning to spine and edges. Minimal marks to boards. Green cloth boards, gilt lettering to spine, gilt image of a Bulls head on a crown to front board, under cream coloured dustwrapper with brown lettering. 8.75ins x 5.75ins, 288pp plus frontis and 22pp plates (33 images). The author was apprenticed to learn the "art and mystery" of brewing at Robins Brewery in Hove in 1888 at the age of 14. He was involved with the "Carlisle experiment" - the nationalisation of public houses. In 1919 he joined Whitbreads. Although written 60 years ago there is much of interest for those appreciating the history of brewing and of public houses. Dw is browned and has loss to top of spine and corners. G+ nr VG / G.
