About this Item
No date but clearly the 1933 FIRST ISSUE of "Shackleton's Boat Journey" conforming to all points of Rosove 361.B1 (page 476, but the book in his citation was not signed by Worsley) and confroming to all dust jacket points, this being the first printing of the Nautilus LIbraray edition, an edition that went into many printing/editions, at least 14. The Taurus Collection item 108 (page 143) is similar but was incorrectly designated as the first edition (again, not signed), instead being the 2nd issue but published by Hodder and Stoughton 1940, the Taurus Collection item conforming 100% to Rosove item 361.B2 page 476. Offered here is the very uncommon 1933 first issue which is definitely rare when signed by Worsley. SIGNED AND DATED 1936 by Worsley on FFEP. Original blue cloth, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, front cover decorated in gilt, fore- and bottom edges uncut, "B" printed on page 17. The book has a tiny 5mm rupture/tear in spine cloth starting at the "A" in F. A. and extending to the base of "E" in Worsley. light rubbing to corner tips, light foxing on first several pages otherwise almost no foxing, old owner name penned to front pastedown and signed school prize inscription to same person dated 1950 on FFEP, "F.W. Worsley 5th Nov 1936" penned on same page (FFEP) otherwise no marks or writing on any other pages, solid binding. The original dust jacket lacks top 2cm of spine with loss extending 6cm along the top area of the rear panel, small loss lower front and lower spine corner and flap corner tips, faded/darkened spine, no restorations but the area of the large loss at the top of the spine and rear has been backed (not attached to the jacket at all) with some slightly colored paper (adhered to the paper backing of the dust jacket protector) to slightly better match the coloring of the surrounding jacket. No restorations have been made to the jacket itself. The book measures 174mm tall x 115mm, and has 192 pages. SCARCE. The most recently auctioned signed copy of this edition in dust jacket sold at Sotheby's 20 September 2015 auction for more than $50,000, and it was in a later issue dust jacket.
